The British outdoors is a wonderful sight to behold. The countryside is one of the most spectacular sites you will ever see, beautiful scenes surround us that most of us probably never really appreciate until we are too old to take full advantage of. Getting the children outdoors while they are young is one of the best ways for our children to truly appreciate the outdoors. With children spending more and more time inside with advancing and ever changing technology we have put a list together of some great activities to get your children outdoors.
Our top tips to get your children outdoors
1) Summer Camp
Many people think that summer camps and residential camps are more an American thing than a British but this is simply not the case. There are lots of British summer camps around and there is usually one a lot closer than you would think. Summer camps offer a great opportunity for children to try out some new and exciting activities with plenty of other children of the same age.
2) Weekly Adventure Clubs
Adventure clubs are a great way to get a regular activity onto the agenda of your children’s busy playtime schedule. Find the nearest climbing wall or lake that offers windsurfing or sailing lessons. Not only will this get your children confident in a new area, and confident in the water if water sports are chosen, but they will also make great new friends and learn valuable social and team building skills along the way and are a great way to get your children outdoors.
3) Walking Holidays
What better way to introduce your children to the beautiful outdoors than by taking them on a walking holiday? Dorset and Cornwall are particularly popular places for this due to their coastal paths and walks with quite literally jaw-dropping scenery, the sea and the beaches in these areas make the views some of the best in the country and the fresh sea air is a great bonus.
4) Holiday & Adventure Parks
A great way to get the kids into the fresh air is by taking them to a holiday park. Specific parks for families are scattered around the country and offer some brilliant activities which can include, outdoor assault courses go-karting, water sports and much more. Many of these activities involve both children and adults alike, making for a great way to have some real family time.
5) Camping Trips
Some of the best memories can be made for children when camping with their family. Stargazing and camp fires make for some really memorable moments and pose a great opportunity for some back to basics outdoor skill building. This really doesn’t have to be expensive either as campsites are dotted all around the country and simplicity is the key here. Wales, the lake district and the peak district are all great examples of great camping locations, however, the average campsite makes for a great outdoor experience too.
