The Meadows Case Study

PlaySmart recently did a large scale wet pour repair for The Meadows school in Oldbury

The school used to have some play equipment in a dedicated wet pour area, but this was removed some time ago. The removal of the equipment left some ugly wooden stumps and the area quickly became a dull and unused space, calling for a repair as soon as possible.

While wet pour is a fantastic safety surface, it is often specified for aesthetic reasons. This is due to a wide range of colour variants available and the ability to incorporate patterns or shapes. Coloured shapes were the number one priority for The Meadows, so we took on the large scale wet pour repair with our RubbaSmart product.

What was the process? First, the installation team cut shapes into the existing wet pour around where the equipment was (1). This gave them better access to cut out the wooden stumps from the ground (2). To create a flat surface, they then laid a layer of base wet pour (3). The final step was to then lay the surface of blue wet pour (4), which created a nice contrast with the pale green background and turning the site into a bright, colourful play area.

Wet pour is a slip resistant surface and creates no trip hazards plus is low maintenance, making it the perfect choice for The Meadows. And while they didn’t require the surfacing for equipment-safety reasons, if there is any equipment in your play area, we can specify at varying thicknesses in order to provide a range of Critical Fall Heights (CFH) from 0.7m CFH to 3.0m CFH.
