Does Artificial Grass get Hot?
A commonly asked question. While we take all the measures to consider the impacts of extreme weather and heat on our artificial grass by including flame-retardant materials and melt-proof blades, there is a chance the grass can become hotter in the summer months, although less so than concrete and similar materials.
In the unlikely case that the artificial grass does become damaged due to heat-related reasons, they are often easily reparable due to the simple installation process of our products. Therefore, while some may feel that their turf does become hotter as we enter summer, there are several measures you can take to prevent extreme heat and damage in your space, preserving the longevity and quality, which this guide will outline.
1. Barbecues
During the summer months a barbecue dinner is the perfect social space and opportunity to invite friends to enjoy your outdoor space. Although we encourage the socialising, we do not encourage placing the barbeque directly on our artificial grass. Doing this would make the artificial grass’s temperature rise and therefore damage it. Keeping the barbecue off the grass is the best solution to preserve the high-quality nature of our product.
2. Suitable Footwear
Artificial Grass does have potential to heat up during the summer. Therefore, it is advised to wear shoes to avoid burning your feet or causing discomfort. Luckily there are stylish shoes, sandals, and flip-flops available to buy today, therefore not jeopardising your style for comfort.
3. Unfortunate Window Positioning
Although sometimes out of your control, it is important to consider the positioning of windows and their subsequent light reflection. During the sunnier months, the risk of the sun reflecting off of a window and onto your artificial grass is much higher, causing an increased risk of damage and hot temperatures. Therefore, when installing the PlaySmart Artificial Grass, double check window positioning and potential points of reflection that may damage your grass and increase the artificial grass temperature.
4. Cooling Down the Artificial Grass Temperature
While not recommended as a permanent solution, particularly for water preservation, you may decide to hose the turf to cool it down as a short-term option. In doing so, the grass will remain cooler for longer, allowing you to walk across it when and how you wish. Alternatively, you can put a blanket down, allowing a layer of protection should the artificial grass become too hot.
Artificial Grass Placement
Are you installing the PlaySmart artificial grass in schools or playgrounds? We advise you install it within a shadier area of your space. Because such spaces are designed for children, damage from heat is important. Therefore, keeping the grass in shade not only prevents the surface overheating but also protects your children from burning themselves.
