Your Expert Guide to Rubber Playground Surface Repair
Does your wet pour have cracks, gaps, and potholes that cause hazards for users? It may seem simpler to close your site and replace the entire surface. Some methods of rubber playground surface repair can be costly, time-consuming, and impractical. But not with PlaySmart! We have introduced wet pour repair kits as an easy solution that everyone can use.
Wet pour rubber like PlaySmart’s own RubbaSmart, is a long-term surfacing solution. However, after years of rubber wear from heavy use, extreme weather, tree root growth, and other environmental factors, cracks are unfortunately common. As a result, we have crafted our own Wet Pour Repair Kit.
When to Use Wet Pour Repair Kits:
If you are in need of short-term repair work to get your playground back running at its full potential as soon as possible, these repair kits are invaluable. for small damaged areas and cracks, you can undertake rubber playground surface repairs without site closure. Simply cordon off the area long enough for the new rubber to set and your surface will be as good as new!
However, it is important to note that if damage exceeds one metre squared or the surface has extensive areas of being lifted, we recommend contacting our repairs team for a more in-depth evaluation. This is because there may be a larger underlying issue with the surface. Bulges or recurrent cracks may be a sign of groundwater buildup that will continue to cause hazards if not dealt with at the source.
How to Use Wet Pour Repair Kits:
Each individual kit allows a 20mm thick, 1 metre square repair job. In total, it only takes one day for a complete repair: half a day for installing the materials, and half a day to let the wet pour set. From £55 – £95, our wet pour rubber kits provide excellent value-for-money, removing the need for any site closures or external contractor work.

The Wet Pour Repair process, using PlaySmart’s own Wet Pour Repair Kit, can be completed in four simple steps:
- Clean the area by sweeping away loose material and dirt. Wipe away any liquids, and trim loose edges with the provided Stanley knife.
- Combine 1 bag of rubber to 1 bag of binder, mixing thoroughly in the provided mixing bucket. Ensure you wear the rubber safety gloves included in the kit.
- At 2-5mm above the damaged area, gently pour the solution until it fills the area.
- Smooth the area over with a soapy water trowel, and leave for half a day to allow it to set.
Looking for Alternative Rubber Playground Surface Repair Methods?
EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) rubberised wear pads are designed for longevity and impact-absorption. Similarly to typical wetpour rubber repair, EPDM is applied over cracks or holes in existing surfaces for extra protection and strengthening of weaknesses in the rubber.
We recommend these EPDM wear pads for high-wear zones over a basic wet pour surface repair. This is because the higher tensile strength of EPDM makes it more effective at preventing further rubber wear while also improving safety and shock-absorption.
