What is Wet Pour? - Surfacing Guide

Our clients often ask: “What is Wet Pour?”. Our wetpour surface- RubbaSmart- is a popular surfacing choice for playgrounds and outdoor areas across the country. But what exactly is it, and how is it different from other rubber surfacing?

Wet pour is a rubber surface that provides a high-quality, hard-wearing, slip-resistant surface that requires little to no maintenance. Additionally, RubbaSmart complies with BS EN 1177 and is certified for various Critical Fall Heights.

It is made by mixing together rubber EPDM granules with polyurethane glue binder. Our team mixes the solution together on site, then pours it while wet onto the play area – hence the name!

Our team installs wet pour in various thicknesses depending on the play equipment in the area. This equipment may require different fall heights, so we have to undertake groundwork to prepare the area for the installation. This involves flattening and raking the ground, but also often installing a sub-base.

PlaySmart’s wet pour uses colour-true EPDM granules. These are available in a range of 20 different colours so you can create a unique, vibrant play space.

The key benefit of RubbaSmart is that it’s very easy to create complex designs, patterns, and shapes, helping spark the imagination of any children using the play area. We apply each section of a pattern individually, allowing the shapes to dry for a clear, precise line between elements of the design.

  1. Really informative read Jasmine! Like you said, wet pour is a great choice for playground surfaces. I feel another benefit of wet pour is that it is suitable for almost all weather conditions. It can easily withstand heavy rain, snow and even heat.
