The Show Garden Brief
In late 2024, Taylor Wimpey got in touch to finish off the outdoors of their new development’s show garden. We took to this project to help them achieve the perfect space for both living and leisure. We developed a multitude of sustainable features to match the development’s eco-friendly principles, while providing an attractive, multi-use area for prospective buyers of the new properties.
Having worked with many housing developers in our over 20+ years, PlaySmart knows how important the first impression of a house can be in attracting buyers. We are happy to say that we were able to achieve the amazing kerb appeal the developer was looking for.

Corkeen Patio Enhancing Show Garden Style
A central feature for any show garden is the patio. This represents a space for leisure, relaxation, and togetherness perfect for potential buyers looking to buy one of the family homes in the development.
Our Corkeen surfacing was chosen as the ideal material for this space. The natural cork stays cool in hot weather and has a great drainage capacity, meaning it can handle any weather conditions with ease.
A gathering place for all seasons that stays looking great with minimal maintenance, Corkeen is perfect for a low-maintenance surface.
In Eaves Green, the yellow cork makes a great contrast piece to the green lawn. This contributes to the modern design of the garden while maintaining the use of sustainable materials throughout. Corkeen is a Carbon Negative material sourced from PEFC certified Cork forests, and once its lifecycle is over, is fully recyclable.
Using Recycled Building Materials
In the process of landscaping, our team accomplished sustainability in multiple corners of the development. We used recycled materials like drain pipes in the construction of planters and gabion seats for this project. This really shows our clients that no aspect of the garden was left unturned and no corner ignored when it comes to fulfilling our sustainable mission.
Reusing materials and shaping them into the cohesive design of the project ultimately creates a bespoke and unique show garden that elegantly demonstrates the attention to detail that is invaluable when looking to attract interested parties to buy.
Resin Bound Gravel SuDS Area
Eaves Green needed drainage considerations built into the site to control the flow of water. This acts as a future-proofing measure as much as fulfilling the practical need for a hard-surface area at the site. With our resin-bound gravel aggregate, PlaySmart were able to achieve a low-maintenance, weather resistant area that met their requirements for simplicity and effectiveness.
With expert groundwork and the unique aggregate blend using a specific resin binder, drainage is not an issue for this surface. Groundwater is able to efficiently flow through the gravel into the soil and away via natural drainage channels. This achieves the requirements for the Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) as an example of responsible water management.
Embracing the Natural
This development also aimed to bring the green to Eaves Green with a wide range of landscaping and planting. With new trees, planting beds, and fresh turf, our team transformed the space into a beautiful multi-use green space.
By bringing a variety of vegetation into the outdoor space, the show garden looks larger and more open. With trees and planters around the garden borders, the space feels guarded from neighbours as the ideal private area for leisure and life.
The star shaped planter is a fun centrepiece to the garden, and with the high quality organic mulch added by our team, the plants are given a prime opportunity for growth.

In addition to plant life, the development also aims to care for local animal and insect wildlife. The hedgehog house, ‘minibeast’ habitat, and bee-friendly wildflower area are sure to be a particular favourite for any nature lover looking to buy in the development.

Beyond installation, our team was chosen to provide landscape maintenance services and aftercare for the Eaves’ Green show garden. Our services included:

- Pruning and deadheading vegetation
- Refreshing mulch and fertiliser in plant beds

- Winterizing (preparing beds for seasonal cold with extra mulch to insulate root systems)
